Loft Insulation acts as blanket in your loft space to stop the heat escaping through the roof, every time you turn on your heating and the heat rises you could be losing up to 25% of all the heat generated through your loft space.
Loft Insulation has many benefits but the biggest benefit of Loft Insulation has to be the cost savings.
Every time you heat your home up to 25% of all the heat generated rises up through the roof space and you do not see the benefit, so by having your loft insulated you could save up to 25% on your heating bills.
Loft Insulation is very cost effective for any initial outlay the loft insulation would have paid for itself within 3 years due to the savings on the heating bills.
Another little known fact about loft insulation is that as well as keeping you warm in the winter it also keeps your property cooler in the summer months as it stops the summer sun from heating your property.
Loft Insulation is now also part of building regulations and when selling or letting your home you will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) if your home has a low EPC rating it may be more difficult to sell or depending on the rating you may not be legally allowed to let your property. The thickness of Loft Insulation is noted on the EPC and if it is not insulated or has low levels of loft insulation it will reduce your rating, so Loft Insulation will add value to your property and make it more attractive to buyers or tenants.
As well as saving you money Loft Insulation also saves the environment, by having your loft insulated you could reduce your properties Co2 emissions by up to 800Kg per year.

Current recommendations for Loft Insulation are that you have at least 270mm of insulation in your loft, if you have less than 270mm then it would be worth having your loft insulation topped up.
If your loft has not been insulated since around 1998 then the chances are you have less than 150mm of insulation as Loft Insulation deteriorates after time so it is probably time your insulation was topped up.
If you are not sure how much insulation is in your loft or when it was last topped up then cast your mind back to the last time you were in the loft, do you remember if the loft insulation was below, Level or Above the joists that run along the floor of you loft? If the insulation was level or below the joists then then it is time for a top up of loft insulation.
And if you have no insulation in your loft then it is delicately time to get your loft insulated and start saving on your heating bills.
Loft Insulation is installed on the floor of the loft space.
The installer will first of all roll the insulation in between the joists that run along the floor and then will roll another layer across the joists making a double layer of insulation to ensure that none of the heat can escape when you are heating your property.
If it is required then the installer will also fit vents in the eaves of the loft to ensure that there is adequate ventilation.
The installer will then insulate and draught proof your loft hatch again to ensure no heat can rise and escape through your roof, he will then ensure that all pipes have any required insulation and also ensure that any relevant water tanks are insulated.
And finally the installer will do their final checks to ensure the property has been left clean and tidy and the loft is properly insulated.
